8 days and counting.

I’ve been stocking up on foods I can have the first few weeks after surgery.

Food Stuffs

Ok, this isn’t all I can have… well, the first week it will be the broth (low sodium chicken and beef), sugar free Jell-O, watered down 100% fruit juice and water with some of the True Lemon in it. Oh, not shown is some mint tea that I bought to have too.I also forgot to get some sugar free Popsicles to have for a treat.

So yea, I met with the dietitian on Tuesday, and after we talked about eating after surgery we got in to what I need to do before surgery to lose the pre-op weight. Basically, I’ve been put on a “Calorie Controlled Lifestyle” Here’s the explaination of just what that is from one of the flyers they gave me;

This calorie controlled lifestyle is a healthy diet used by many to lose weight or to control their diabetes. It is easy to follow and is appropriate for persons of all ages and stages of life. There is no need to count calories or to spend extra money on specialty foods. This diet is split into 6 food groups, and you are allowed a given number of servings in each group. This will help to ensure a balanced diet that will better support your body and its needs.

And the joyful part of this is I am supposed to limit myself to a whopping 1500 daily calorie level.

When I met with the surgeon we talked about how some folks go out and have that last big meal before the surgery just stuffing themselves. He said folks that do that aren’t ready for the surgery. And he’s right. I made a comment about trying to do all this through the holidays, with the big meals and all. His response was basically get used to it.

It’s Thanksgiving today. Or course I ate more than I should have…  but I didn’t eat as much as I “would have”. I had small portions of a lot of different things. Some turkey of course, and stuffing. And what’s stuffing without mashed potatoes, and of course gravy. Oh… and can’t forget the green bean casserole, some squash (we didn’t have sweet potatoes) and some of the bread I baked. Then later, a small piece of the pumpkin pie I made, and a bit of my sister’s apple pie. Only thing I had seconds on was the turkey. Like I said, more than I should have… but less than I would have if had not started down the road I’m currently on. Small steps, right?

I’ve been having a bout of ‘bottomless pouch’ days lately. My weight’s been bouncing up and down a few pounds every couple days cause of it. So I figured I would document my food today in an attempt to keep Joe happy and myself in line.
