Dashing For A Cause… or Three

I’ve mentioned a few times now about how I’ll be doing the Warrior Dash this coming July, and I’ve mentioned I’ll be doing it to help do some fund raising. I wanted to get a few more details out there in order to … well, keep this on everyone’s mind.Warrior Dash Logo

Basically, what I’m looking at doing is a sort of raffle. I’m working on living up some (hopefully) really good prizes, and for every X dollars (I’m thinking $10 is a good round number) someone donates they get a virtual raffle ticket as a chance to win one of the prizes.

I’ve already got some commitments on prizes that will be great for those that live local to me in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area… free massage, some salon products from a friend I have that owns a great place in Uptown, some tix to a home game of the MN Swarm for the 2012 season… and more in the works. For those not local, I’m still working on that, but one thing I have is an extra one of the Warrior Dash souvenir helmets.. so while you won’t be able to say you did the dash, you can say you were of great support to someone that did!

Since I will have a mix of these types of stuff that is going to be specific to those local here, what I’m toying with doing is making it a sort of combination raffle and silent auction.. where when you donate, you tell me what prize you want to go for. Say you donate enough for ten chances, you could spread them out over ten different items, or increase your odds by putting them all on one item.

I would like some feedback on if you folks think this is a good way to go or not…? The other option is to just make sure those that want/are local let me know so they are included in the chance to win those prizes and those that aren’t local aren’t stuck winning something they’d have to travel half-way across the country to use.

And be warned ahead of time, for items that need to be shipped… I’m likely going to have to limit this to those in the continental US type states… cause shipping will be coming out of my pocket. Unless of course you want to pick up the shipping.

As for who this fund raising will be benefiting.. you have you choice there. You will be able to make a donation to any or all of the following three causes:

The Obesity Action Coalition, the Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America or the Turn the Tide Foundation

They all are great groups, all fighting for obesity issues in slightly different ways, I’m trying to support them all in various ways and figured I would give you all the choice to donate to any one, two or all three of them.

I’m hoping to be making the bulk of my prize announcements when I get back from Vegas, with the main fund-raising period starting around the first week or so in June and going for about four to six weeks.

So … yea, keep this in the back of your mind until then… and hey! If you have something you would be willing to donate as a prize… I don’t care if you’re an individual and want to donate some sort of craft type item… or a corporation that would like to donate some product or service… let me know! I’m open to just about anything here!

I had RNY Gastric Bypass on April 8, 2009. I went from my heaviest of over 380 down to a low of 188 (for about a day!) before working on rebuilding muscle and such. Now I maintain at about 205. WLS has changed my life in so many ways, including my career as I now tackle nutritional coaching and other obesity education issues.
