Why? Because I Can.

Ok, not quite yet… it’s still nearly two months away, BUT I am ready to kick off the fund-raising portion of all this.

Leaping Fire

Over the coming weeks I’ll be sharing a bit here and there about what I’m doing to prepare for this, the obstacles I’ll be facing and just a bit more in general about the Warrior Dash itself, but first I wanted to touch on just why I’m doing this in the first place.

Well… honestly, because I can.

And because just a few short years ago, I would not have been able to. A few years ago, my life was ruled by the fact that I was obese. Plain and simple. For me, having bariatric surgery was the ultimate game changer. That’s why I volunteer to do a support group for my surgeon’s office. It’s why I donate time and such to the WLSFA.

But I realize surgery is not the best option for everyone – there are many aspects to obesity, and it start with giving those fighting obesity a voice. That’s where the Obesity Action Coalition comes in, and it’s why I’m a member and it’s why I am supporting them as part of this fund raiser.

But another key to this puzzle is stemming the growing tide of obesity in children. Either by helping those struggling with it or by preventing it in the first place. The words of Dr. David Katz have really struck a chord with me in recent months and it’s why I also chose the Turn The Tide Foundation as part of this as well.

In all seriousness, why would any of you care that I’m going to do this? Well, maybe you don’t. I mean, after all… I just some guy with a blog that had a surgery to help him lose weight. Big whoop, right?

Yea, I know. Even I… or maybe I especially have a hard time figuring that part out myself. But maybe you do care? Maybe you know someone that’s struggled with obesity…or is today. Maybe you know somebody who’s benefited from having had bariatric surgery. Maybe you know someone trying to get it but doesn’t have insurance. Maybe you know someone who was a bit on the chubby side as a kid and was teased by the other kids about it. Maybe you were that kid.

So maybe, just maybe, some small part of you does care about these issues? Or maybe you have cared about them, but didn’t think there was much you could do?

Well, there is. Any one of these three organizations could benefit from your support, and maybe you’ve even been thinking about doing something to show that support in the past but just haven’t gotten around to it? Well, maybe that’s why you should care that I’m tackling the Warrior Dash. Cause for the next eight weeks, if you show that support for anyone one of these three organizations, not only will you be supporting a great cause… you’ll have the chance to win free stuff. And who doesn’t like free stuff?

So c’mon… no reason to wait… I know it’s not quite June 1st yet, but I tell ya what… if you go right now and make a donation, I’ll count it. I mean after all, it’s gotta be June 1st somewhere by now, right? So go ahead, and if you need just one more reason to do so… it’s because you can.
